Saucier is back at work in his other occupation, providing wildlife control services throughout Southern Maine. Saucier was part of an Advisory Support Team where he advised a Company Commander of the Iraqi Intervention Force. Knowing Iraqis would see their first free election in 30 years was a big motivator for Saucier and a cause he is passionate about.
Saucier is also passionate about protecting people, property and wildlife through his Sanford, Maine-based Critter Control business. While he is committed to serving in the U.S. military, his active military status comes with a price. Saucier is self employed and presently he is the entire staff at Critter Control of Southern Maine. So, when Saucier was called to active duty and deployed to Iraq, his business had to be closed, at least temporarily. Not unlike thousands of other entrepreneurs in America who are in the Reserves, when called to duty their business enterprise suffers, many times causing financial hardship for the reservist immediate family.
Saucier’s family quickly felt the financial pinch as a result of the loss of income the business provided. His customers were forced to look elsewhere for the unique wildlife control services he once provided. Nonetheless, Saucier’s feet are back on American soil in his home state of Maine and he is in the process of re-building his business. “I’ll rebuild my business one day at a time.” he said. “I wouldn’t change a thing. The volunteer military we have in America is filled with some of the bravest and most talented people on the planet and I’m truly honored to serve our county alongside them.”
Kevin Clark, founder and CEO of the nationwide Critter Control franchise network, which represents Saucier, was so moved by Saucier’s dedication to his country and his unwavering commitment to rebuilding his business, he decided to take action himself by offering special financial incentives to retiring U.S. Armed Forces Veterans seeking a Critter Control franchise. "We're proud to be able to offer our veterans who are leaving the military an opportunity to have a piece of the American dream, the very dream they've defended. We recognize veterans as highly motivated - proven leaders," Clark said. "They've served our country and we want to show our appreciation."
Clark’s Critter Control also became a member of the International Franchise Association's Veterans Transition Franchise Initiative (VetFran). Critter Control is recognized as a "Veteran Friendly Franchisor" providing special programs specifically set aside for prior veterans. Ray Saucier thinks this is a good idea. His fellow veterans need opportunities much like the one Critter Control offers in order to have a chance to achieve the American dream.
