Another Bill Exempting Pesticides from CWA Permit Requirements Introduced in Congress

House Agriculture Committee Chairman Collin Peterson of Minnesota introduced, on Sept. 30, a bill exempting pesticides applied in accordance with federal pesticide law from Clean Water Act permitting requirements. 
 
Similar but slightly different bills were introduced by Senate Agriculture Committee Chairwoman Blanche Lincoln of Arkansas and Congressman Frank Lucas of Oklahoma in early August.  All three bills would reverse a January 2009 federal court decision directing the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to require various pesticide applicators to obtain Clean Water Act permits prior to applying pesticides directly yo or near bodies of water.
