BRAITHWAITE, La. — David Carter Exterminating Co., a 24-year-old, family-owned business located in Kenner, La., donated its time and services to a deserving family in Braithwaite, La., for the TV program "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition."

David Carter, a member of the Kenner North Kiwanis club, heard about the makeover through the Kiwanis club, which donated materials and labor to build the family a boat dock for fishing in the pond built for them.

Since termites are a major problem in the New Orleans area, he contacted the Extreme Makeover team about donating his services for a termite treatment. Carter, owner of the company, along with two of his employees, performed a termite treatment on the home to ensure that termites would not damage the work being done by the Makeover crew.

This home was not completely demolished as some are, so only a post-construction treatment was necessary. Part of the home was raised with a slab addition. David Carter Exterminating Co. will be going back in about four months to do a follow-up service once the landscaping is completed. As is common in the New Orleans area, a “monsoon” came in the middle of the project, which delayed the landscaping.

The home was renovated for the Leslie family, which includes a mother and her three children (her husband and 16-year-old son died in an automobile accident.)
