INDIANAPOLIS — Dow AgroSciences has been honored at RFID Journal LIVE! with the conference’s top award: “Most Innovative Use of RFID.”

RFID Journal LIVE! is the world’s largest annual conference and exhibition focused on radio frequency identification (RFID). The award, presented on May 2, in Orlando, spotlights Dow AgroSciences for its ground-breaking use of RFID technology as a key component of the Sentricon® Termite Colony Elimination System.

“We are very pleased with this special recognition,” said Dave Morris, Dow AgroSciences U.S. commercial leader for pest management. “The Dow Chemical Company and Dow AgroSciences have invested heavily in the Sentricon System, and that investment has helped make it the No. 1 brand1 in termite protection.”

The ESP™ technology component of the Sentricon System was introduced in 2002. When the Sentricon System detects termite activity, it triggers an RFID tag in the monitoring device that transmits a signal to an electronic scanning unit. With the RFID tags built into the Sentricon® System, the Authorized Operator (AO) does not have to manually remove the monitoring device to check for termite activity.

Through this technology, the Sentricon System has been able to increase AO efficiency by as much as 67 percent and reduce actual site inspection time by six minutes, thereby increasing possible site visits from approximately 12 to 20 per day.

The Sentricon System was one of more than 50 entries submitted in RFID Journal LIVE!’s inaugural awards program. The program, which has three categories, also honored Hewlett-Packard Brazil for “Best RFID Implementation” and DHL for “Best Use of RFID in a Service.”
