Dr. Eric Smith to Retire from Dodson Pest Control

LYNCHBURG, Va. — Eric Smith, PhD, director of technical services at Dodson Pest Control for 22 years, has announced he will retire from the company effective Feb. 28, 2014.  However, Smith will continue to work on special projects for the company when needed.

Smith joined Dodson Pest Control as director of Technical Services in August 1989.  He has made enormous contributions during his tenure as senior entomologist.  Smith has given numerous presentations at pest management meetings and workshops across the country.  He has published numerous articles on urban pests and published many scientific papers in journals.  Smith is the senior author of the NPMA Field Guide to Structural Pests.

Smith received his bachelor’s degree in botany from Miami University (Ohio), his MS in entomology from Purdue University and his PhD in systematic entomology from Ohio State University.  He is a member of several scientific and professional societies and is a past president of Pi Chi Omega, the professional fraternity of the Pest Management Industry.  In 2006, Dr. Smith received the inaugural Crown Award for Technical Excellence, sponsored by PCT and Syngenta.  In the same year, he also won the Virginia Pest Management Industry Stewardship Award for his lifetime commitment and service to the pest management industry.
