MOJAVE, Calif. — Etex Ltd., manufacturer of the Electro-Gun, announced a series of changes in personnel and new strategic objectives. The Mojave, Calif.-based company has appointed Mike Fortuna to the position of chief operating officer (COO) as of September 1.

“I will be responsible for expanding the Electro-Gun’s presence throughout the pest control industry, as well improving our existing products and developing new ones,” Fortuna said. “We are in the process of relocating our maintenance/repair and R&D facility, presently in Austin, Texas, to Mojave as well."

Fortuna added, “Over the past 30 years, the Electro-Gun has been used primarily in California and Florida, but we aim to expand its use within the continental United States. I am tasked with helping to lead the company forward into its next business growth cycle.”

The Electro-Gun is designed to be an effective treatment in areas where access is available. It was not designed to replace all other methods of control, but rather to work in harmony with them. “It’s great at reducing time on callbacks where only a spot treatment is required,” he says. “And most importantly, in today’s economy, it allows the pest control company to offer a green alternative that can get them in the door. The inspection may reveal that the infestation does not warrant the Electro-Gun's use. We feel that at least the company has gotten in and now has the opportunity to take care of the problem for the customer. In those cases where the Electro-Gun is used customers are happy that they and their loved ones were not exposed to anything perceived as harmful.”

Because Etex has had considerable success using the Electro-Gun on wood-boring insects in Portugal, Tahiti, and Costa Rica, Fortuna also plans targeted expansion into other countries in Europe and South America.

According to Susan Fortuna, Etex’s president, Mike’s education in law and chemistry combined with more than 38 years of experience as a plant manager and quality control director for several large companies in the aerospace and chemical industries, “is a perfect match” with the Etex strategic plans for growth. “His abilities and experience established a record of positive bottom line impact for those companies. This background, education, and business unit management record makes him an ideal addition to the Etex team.”
