FAOPMA Meeting Featured NPMA Past Presidents Judy Dold and Bob Kunst

The Federation of Asian and Oceanic Pest Management Associations (FAOPMA) held its 19th annual convention in Taipei, Taiwan, last week.

TAIPEI, Taiwan - The Federation of Asian and Oceanic Pest Management Associations (FAOPMA) held its19th annual convention in Taipei, Taiwan, last week.

FAOPMA is an association made up of member countries rather than individuals and as such represents a large segment of the world’s population and pest management firms.

Representatives from the Republic of China, Hong Kong, Japan, India, Korea, Singapore, Philippines, Thailand, Israel, Saudi Arabia, Australia, and New Zealand were present. Dr. Err-Lieh Hsu, president of the Chinese Pest Control Association and host country said, "Our convention proved to be more successful than we expected and we are very happy at the large turnout for our educational sessions. We had 23 wonderful speakers and attendance was high at all of our sessions."

A large contingent of speakers from the U.S. comprised more than 25% of all the presentations given. Dr. William Robinson, Urban Pest Control Research, spoke on "German Cockroach Control and Bait Aversions"; NPMA Past President Judy Dold spoke on "Moving Customer Service from Good To Great"; NPMA Past President Bob Kunst, Fischer Environmental Services, spoke on “residential and commercial vector control for the prevention of dengue fever and other mosquito-borne diseases"; Dr. Nan-Yao Su, University of Florida, spoke on "Colony Impacts of Current Control Measures and Their Implications for Subterranean Termite Control"; Dr. David Oi, USDA-ARS, spoke on "Evolution of Fire Ant Control"; and Dr. Sanford Porter, USDA-ARS, spoke on "Ecology and Impact of Fire Ants."

"FAOPMA is known for its excellent educational sessions," said NPMA Past President Bob Kunst "they are really well prepared and to be asked to participate is a great honor". These sentiments were echoed by another NPMA Past President Judy Dold along with her life long companion and former NPMA President Bob Dold. To top off a wonderful dducational program a great cultural program was included to, complete with native dances and sightseeing through the beautiful island of Formosa (whose name translates to Beautiful Isle)
