DELTONA, Fla. - Officials in Deltona, a city northeast of Orlando, installed the first "bat house" in their city on Friday.
They're hoping that having the bats will be an environmentally friendly form of pest control since a single bat can eat about 1,000 mosquito-size insects in an hour.
The bat house is a cedar box that sits on a pole about 20 feet in the air.
Officials hope the house will give bats a home since they have lost habitat due to development. They plan other bat houses around the city.
