OCALA, Fla. – Marion County Health Director Dr. Nathan Grossman announced that Florida Department of Health (DOH) Secretary M. Rony François, M.D., M.S.P.H., Ph.D., has issued a medical alert for Marion County after a human case of West Nile (WN) virus was confirmed in a 61-year-old male resident. Symptoms of West Nile virus may include headache, fever, fatigue, dizziness, weakness and confusion. Physicians should contact their county health department if they suspect an individual may meet the case definition for a mosquito-borne illness. DOH laboratories provide testing services for physicians treating patients with clinical signs of mosquito-borne disease. DOH continues to advise the public to remain diligent in their personal mosquito protection efforts.
