Fumigation Companies Compete in 12th Annual Banner Contest

Nix Termite tops list of 2015 entries.

LIBERTY, Mo. — Pest Control Operators of California (PCOC) announced the winners of the 12th annual Fumigation Banner Bonanza Contest, sponsored by Vikane gas fumigant. The contest recognizes California fumigators for promoting fumigation through signage at fumigation sites.

Nix Termite Inc. of Bonita, Calif., won first place. The judging panel commented the winning banner was professional and easy to read, and judges liked that it incorporated a QR code and logos of Angie’s List and the Better Business Bureau.

“I designed and laid out this banner myself,” says Chris Aguilar, owner of Nix Termite. “I’ve been in this line of work for 27 years, so doing my own advertising and laying things like this out is something I’ve gradually improved upon over the years.”

Aguilar says it was important for him to include logos from referral sites on this banner.

“We want our customers to know that we are recognized on many sites as a five-star rating company, like Yelp, Angie’s List and others,” he says. “You can’t show your customers you have a better product unless they call you. Through sites like these, you can get potential customers to call you, and then you can present your products and services. Our goal five years ago was to find a new way to get clients to call us and it’s worked!”

Aguilar says he plans to use the winning prize money to throw an appreciation party for his employees.

In second place was Gold Coast Pest Control Inc., of Simi Valley, California, with a colorful banner noting that the company has been family owned since 1980. Thrasher Termite and Pest Control, Inc., of Los Gatos, California, was awarded third place.

Participating fumigation companies submitted photos of their banners, which included their business name, logo and contact information. A panel of communications specialists judged the banners based upon readability from a distance, professionalism, visual impact and attractiveness. Pest control companies with winning banners will be awarded prizes in the following amounts: first place, $1,250; second, $1,000; and third, $500.

“Vikane has sponsored the PCOC banner contest for over a decade,” says Heather Kern, Global Marketing Leader for Douglas. “The contest allows our fumigator partners to take pride in their banners, engage in some friendly competition and promote the value of structural fumigation with Vikane gas fumigant.”
