In 2021, Karen Furgiuele, president of Gardex Chemicals, started supporting a shelter serving women in need of a safe place to live. Many of these women have children to care for, ranging in age from newborns to teenagers. Nobody wants to see any child go without a present for the holidays, so it was Furgiuele’s mission to start a toy drive to help these families.
Gardex said it was successful thanks in part to the dozens of pest control companies, suppliers and staff who came forward and contributed toys, clothing, gift cards or made a generous cash donation. As a working community, Gardex was able to make sure that each woman living at the shelter had a very nice gift card for themselves.
This year, Gardex did it again. Starting Nov. 1, the distributor kicked off its second annual Toy Drive. Gardex is also collecting non-perishable food items for the shelter’s on-site food bank. Items such as pasta, rice, cereal, canned vegetables, and snacks for children are all greatly needed.
Gardex also wanted to recognize the importance of the women at the shelter. Gardex said it is delighted to be able to donate gift cards directly to them so that they may purchase any items that they may need over the holidays.
“There is a great sense of pride and happiness being felt by all who have already given this holiday season,” said Furgiuele. “Being able to put a smile on the face of a child is one of life’s greatest joys.
