AUSTIN, Texas — After 25 years of service to Univar, Benjamin Gomez left the distributor by mutual agreement on March 13.
Gomez had been with Univar since 1996 when he sold his Mexico City business, SISTEMAS ECOLOGICOS PARA EL CONTROL DE PLAGAS SA DE CV, to the company, becoming part of the Van Waters and Rogers’ PP&S business. Recently, he helped transition Univar PP&S Mexico into the Environmental Sciences business.
“This venture transformed the Mexican pest industry, helping develop technology and innovation to the structural pest and public health markets,” said Trace McEuen, vice president, Univar Environmental Services – Americas.
In 2015, Gomez’s role was expanded to Director of Univar Specialties Mexico, servicing several business units such as CASE, Personal Care & HIC, Food & Pharma, Industrials and Plastics.
McEuen added, “On behalf of the entire organization, we thank Benjamin for his significant contributions to Univar during his career, wishing him well in his future endeavors.”
Alejandra Peña, business unit manager, has assumed responsibility of the Sistemas Ecologicos sales force, negotiations and business development activities. Cristina Morera, administration manager, will be responsible for accounts receivable, accounts payable, accounting and administrative activities. Peña and Morera will report directly to McEuen.
In recent years, Gomez has played a key role in honoring industry leaders with the Global Ambassador Award at NPMA PestWorld’s International Reception, an event sponsored by Univar Environmental Sciences.
Gomez is a graduate of the Monterrey Institute of Technology (ITESM), where he earned a degree in Agronomy. He also has two post-graduate degrees, one in Social Responsibility from USEM Mexico, and the other in Management from IPADE Business School. Gomez also is actively involved in several national and international pest control associations.
In reflecting on his tenure at Univar, Gomez said, “It has been a wonderful journey. The construction of a dream and watching it happen is the most fulfilling sensation a man can have. Now I look ahead and dream of new ventures to come and new constructions to build, there is still a lot to do.”
