GPCA Awards Scholarships to Five

Five scholarships have been awarded this year to children of Georgia Pest Control Association members.

NORCROSS, Ga – The Georgia Pest Control Association's annual golf tournament made possible the awarding of more scholarship dollars than ever before to children of GPCA members. Five scholarships have been awarded this year to children of association members.

The following winners have been announced:

  • Kelly Hunter, daughter of Mark Hunter, VP & general manager of White Lavender Pest Control in Macon. She plans to attend Macon State College and pursue a degree in Early Childhood Education.
  • Kyle Hix, grandson of Talmadge Hulsey  and son of Richard Lee from Empire Pest  Control in Gainesville. Kyle will attend North Georgia College & State University.
  • Kelly Smith, son of Administrative Assistant Shawn Fennell, a 20-year Orkin employee. He will attend the University of Georgia.
  • Travis Azar, son of Robert Azar, Jr., supervisor with Terminix in Augusta. He has been accepted at Georgia Southern University.
  • Brandon Salter, son of Bob Salter, Winder Pest Control, Winder. He plans to attend Gainesville College. He currently is working toward acquiring his private pilot’s license.

These individuals attained at least a 900 SAT score, maintained at least a 3.0 cumulative grade point average and are entering freshmen in a college or university within the state of Georgia.

The Glenn Burnett Scholarship was established in the early 80s and since 1985, over $65,000 has been awarded to GPCA members’ children to support their attendance at a Georgia college or university. Named after Glenn Burnett who dedicated more than 20 years of service to the association, the scholarship program has continued to grow in participation and funding through the years.
