GPCA Participates In Leukemia and Lymphoma Society Fundraiser

The Georgia Chapter of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society announces another year of partnership with the Georgia Pest Control Association (GPCA).

ATLANTA — The Georgia Chapter of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society announces another year of partnership with the Georgia Pest Control Association (GPCA) and its member companies in the fight against blood cancers. In the past two years, this partnership has raised more than $140,000 in donations to Light The Night, the Society’s signature evening fundraising event. This year, the partnership plans to surpass this amount by raising $150,000 from customers of GPCA’s member companies statewide.

“People are always searching for ways to help in the fight against cancer. Through our renewed partnership with GPCA and its member companies, Georgians can make Light The Night donations directly to participating pest control technicians to help find cures for blood cancers,” said Dick Brown, executive director of the Georgia Chapter of The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. “Blood cancers like leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma are the fifth most often diagnosed cancers in the world. In fact, over 2,500 Georgians battle this disease every day. We must find a cure. You can help.”

Participating Atlanta-area GPCA partners include Allgood Pest Solutions, Arrow Exterminators, Carroll Exterminating, Chemical Technologies of Georgia, Cook’s Pest Control, Gregory Pest Control, Northwest Exterminating, Orkin Pest Control, Stewart Services, T.Y. Gibson Pest Control, Terminix International, and Univar USA.

Light The Night is a nationwide evening fundraising walk to celebrate and commemorate lives touched by cancer. In Georgia, Light The Night’s fundraising efforts have grown tremendously, with over $1.16 million raised in 2005. This year the Society will host five Light The Night Walks throughout Georgia with an overall fundraising goal of $1.3 million.

Light The Night walks were held in Albany on Sept. 22, Athens on Sept. 29, Augusta on Oct. 7 and will be held in Atlanta on Oct. 14 and Savannah on Oct. 27. Walkers carry illuminated balloons along the two mile walk routes – cancer patients and survivors carry white balloons as “lights of hope” and supporting participants carry red balloons.
