Greeley Church Uses Green Methods to Clear Birds, Bats

Adams Bird Control used green control measures to help keep Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church free of birds.

FORT COLLINS, Colo. – Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Greeley had both birds and bats using the building as a dwelling. Through the use of green bird control measures, the church is now free of these pests.

“We had about 30 birds living all around the church’s roof, especially around the front entry, and we were concerned about providing a healthy environment for our parishioners,” said Aracely Garcia, bookkeeper for Our Lady of Peace. “I found Adams Bird Control on the Internet. They were able find solutions to address both the birds and bats that were also living in the walls of the building.”

“The birds and the bats were living, roosting and nesting around the building, causing quite a bit of damage and mess,” said Ben Adams, CEO of Adams Bird Control & Consulting. “The more than 60 year-old building presented us with some concerns about the mortar and concrete. There were areas of exterior decay that was allowing bats to get in. We took a very detailed approach to eliminating the birds and bats from the building while maintaining its architectural integrity.”

“After the initial installation, the birds just moved to another area of the building,” stated Garcia. “Adams Bird Control came back, made some adjustments, and now we no longer see any birds.”

Adams added that, “As soon as bat season returns, we will perform environmental and structural inspections, and work closely with Church staff to monitor their activity around the church and then make focused adjustments to ensure the bats are permanently excluded.”

“We looked at using other options such as glues or creams on the roof, but Adams Bird Control was better able to deal with our unique building,” added Garcia.

Built in 1948, Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church was remodeled in 2004, and serves a congregation of approximately 2,000 people in the Greeley area. They conduct both English and Spanish masses. Groups from Our Lady of Peace work closely within the community to help meet local needs.
