ORLANDO, FLA. — Harvey Massey, chairman and CEO of Massey Services, Winter Park, Fla., was unanimously elected to the board of directors of the Pontifical Irish College in Rome, Italy. The nine person board, with members from around the world, is charged with fund raising for scholarships to the school, which educates candidates from around the world for the priesthood.
“This is an enormous honor,” Massey said, who will attend the board’s next meeting in Rome. “It’s really quite humbling and I just hope I can add to the great work this small group of people from around the world has already accomplished.” His term on the board of directors of the Pontifical Irish College is three years.
Massey Services is a pest prevention, termite protection and landscape services company with more than 180,000 residential and commercial customers and 58 service centers in Florida, Georgia and Louisiana. Massey is also owner and chairman of Massey Communications, a central Florida public relations and advertising firm.
Founded in 1628, the Irish College is the oldest Irish seminary and the inheritor of the long tradition of such colleges on the European mainland. Today, the College continues its original mission of preparing candidates for the priesthood. It is also home to students from 13 other countries who are studying in many of Rome’s ecclesiastical universities. The College is governed by the Vatican’s Congregation for Catholic Education and by the Irish Episcopal Conference.
