The International Association of Canine Pest Inspectors (IAOCPI) held a regional K-9 Scent Detection seminar and re-certification earlier thhis month in Manistee, Mich. The conference was hosted by Action Canine Institute and owner Jim Rutherford. Nine companies and 22 individuals participated.
The training and evaluation throughout the three-day seminar was performed by Rutherford, Eldon Presnell and Rick Ball from Green Collar Canine Development (North Carolina), and Angelique De Roode, from Strikeforce K-9 (Alliston, Ontario).
“Dog teams from a variety of trainers attended and it was interesting to see the different styles of handling and reward systems that were displayed,” said Michael Goldman, president of IAOCPI. “In the end it didn't matter who trained the teams or what reward was given, it was all about whether the team could certify.”
Representative from Midstate Mills, Newton N.C., also were present in the vendor capacity. Midstate was there to introduce its newest product line, Midstate’s K-9 Finest, The Working Dogs Dietary Paste & Daily Supplement.
