ACAMPO, Calif. – The EPA has approved and issued a stamped label for the use of IGI’s CO2 as a pesticide to control infestations of harmful burrowing rodents and many other pests, which are listed on the master label. (The master label can be found on the company’s website.)
According to the manufacturer, the delivery of CO2 is safe, has no negative effect on the environment and has no residual effects; it is safe to use around children, pets, livestock and can be used to control harmful and damaging pests, particularly burrowing rodents.
The EPA-approved IGI CO2 pesticide can be combined with one of the IGI delivery systems for a complete solution for pest abatement and management. IGI delivery systems include the Eliminator and Eliminator II, used mainly for burrowing rodent control. They can also be utilized in certain fumigation situations. Eliminator products deliver the EPA-approved CO2 into the soil displacing oxygen, thereby suffocating and killing the pests. One other noted benefit of CO2 is that when injected into the soil it can also act as a fertilizer for plant root systems.
The IGI Fumigations System(s) can be used for large and small fumigation projects for all commodities that require fumigation for shipping or storage. CO2 injected in the chamber displaces the oxygen and eliminates the pest, much the same way as when used for burrowing rodents. One benefit of this fumigation process, using the IGI CO2 and the IGI Fumigation System is that crops, commodities, or goods can remain in fumigation, and as long as the chamber remains air tight the CO2 will continue to work, fumigating the contents of the chamber. This provides an ideal situation for cross country or overseas shipping as well as long term storage situations, as well as when general commodity fumigation is needed, the manufacturer reports.
"This EPA approval puts a whole new light on the pest control industry. IGI is the only EPA approved CO2 and this gas must be used with all of the IGI Eliminator delivery and fumigation systems,” Al Dentone, president of IGI, stated.
He added, “Finally, there has been a major, and much needed change in this industry that will affect the way pest management is handled on a large scale and it has been a very long time coming. The approval of this label provides growers, commodity establishments, shippers and a whole host of other industries a solution that is cost effective and safe for handlers and consumers as well. It is easy to administer, and our studies have proven IGI Pesticidal CO2 to be in the range of 93% to 97% effective at a very low cost.”
