The Illinois House has let at least one regulation with a "sunset clause" expire as while it worked on a mass transit funding solution, WBBM reports.
The Illinois Structural Pest Control Act is one of many state laws that is written so that it will automatically expire, if not renewed every year. The Illinois House failed to renew the act by Jan. 3, so it has expired. Thus, there currently is no oversight of pesticide applications in the state in structures in and around people. However, Bob Rosenberg, senior vice president of the National Pest Management Association, told PCT that while there is no state pesticide law governing them, PCOs are still subject to FIFRA and EPA has indicated that it intends to continue conducting FIFRA inspections and may even amend its cooperative agreement with the state to contract with the Illinois Department of Public Health to perform the inspections.
