COLUMBIA, S.C. —The pest control industry mourns the death of Katherine Matthews, one of the original founders of Modern Exterminating Company. Columbia, S.C. Matthews died on Oct. 4, at age 92. She and her late husband, George Matthews, founded Modern Exterminating Company in 1955. To this day, Modern Exterminating Company remains the oldest family-owned pest control operation in Columbia, S.C.
Katherine was truly a business pioneer as one of the first female business owners in Columbia, S.C. Her grandson, Glenn Matthews, III, is proud to continue his grandmother and grandfather’s legacy of promoting Modern Exterminating Company as a pest control company that offers corporate level services backed by small business values.
