Inspiring Future Scientists

Science education at Kirkwood High School just got a big boost thanks to a $100,000 donation from long-time Kirkwoodians Blanton and Peg Whitmire.

KIRKWOOD, Mo. — Science education at Kirkwood High School (KHS) will continue to take dramatic steps into the future during the coming months, thanks to a $100,000 donation from long-time Kirkwoodians Blanton and Peg Whitmire.

The money will go to buy six high-tech pieces of equipment for the new science center's Whitmire Instrument Room. The equipment — ranging from a series of spectrophotometers to a gas chromotographer to a thermal cycler — will be provided and installed by PerkinElmer, a global technology and Health Sciences company, headquartered in Waltham, Mass. The equipment will allow KHS students to perform high-level experiments in mixture separation, substance identification, and DNA and genetics research.
