LANHAM, Md. — Janis Reed, the training and technical director at ABC Services, Austin, Texas, was elected director-elect of the Certification Board of the Entomological Society of America (ESA). As such, she will help lead the Board Certified Entomologist (BCE) and the Associate Certified Entomologist (ACE) programs when her term begins in November at the conclusion of the ESA’s Annual Meeting in Reno, Nevada.

The ACE program certifies pest management professionals who have at least seven years’ experience in the industry, and who have passed a rigorous examination.

The BCE program certifies entomologists who have passed at least two rigorous examinations to test their knowledge and who are specialized in one or more areas of entomology. Certification in both programs provides a way for professionals to stand out from the crowd, to prove their capabilities to customers and employers, and to differentiate themselves from others in the field.

Reed is a certified applicator with the Texas Department of Agriculture and is licensed in pest control, lawn and ornamental control, termite control, and weed control. She is active in the Texas Pest Control Association, where she served as the local chapter president and also served as a director for the Texas Pest Control Association for two years. In 2008, she was given the opportunity to speak at the Annual Pest Control Conference at Texas A&M University. She has been a member of ESA since 1997, and a Board Certified Entomologist in urban/structural entomology since 2007.

More information about the ESA Certification programs and the ESA Annual Meeting in November are available at the ESA website: http://www.entsoc.org.

Founded in 1889, ESA is a non-profit organization committed to serving the scientific and professional needs of more than 5,700 entomologists and individuals in related disciplines.
