KEY WEST, Fla. - Jill Clark of the Critter Control Fishing Team was perfect with the rod and reel, capturing all six of the sailfish she hooked up during the 6th annual World Sailfish Championship in Key West, Fla., this past week. She caught four sails on Thursday and two more on Saturday to edge out Becky Hester of Miami for the top female angler award, who also had six sailfish to her credit.
Hester started the final day in the lead with five sails on the score board, but Clark hooked her first sailfish at 7:03 a.m., just three minutes after lines-in. She tallied another one an hour later to take the lead, while Hester caught her sixth sailfish around noon. Clark won the award based on time by catching her last fish earlier than Hester.
Over 550 sailfish were caught by the 100 boat tournament fleet. Top overall honors went to the boat Rock Star, which had 15 sailfish over the three day event.
