Cowen says Roxide International has been around since 1860 and is credited as the company that invented flypaper. According to the company’s Web site, www.roxide.com, in 1908 Roxide founder Fredrick Kaiser, a German baker who was frustrated by the flies in his bake shop, dipped a sheet of wrapping paper in molasses and hung it in the window. Alas, fly paper was introduced as a pest control option.

Today, Roxide offers a wide range of pest control products for homes, farms and gardens.

Cowen started at Roxide in 1976, working in product development and sales before becoming president in 1987.
