CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Judy Black, a pest management expert with nearly 20 years of experience, has been named technical director of the pest prevention division of The Steritech Group, Inc.  An 11-year veteran of the company, Black has long been a proponent of Steritech’s innovative EcoSensitive® pest prevention system and is a well-known advocate for the structural pest management industry.

Black will provide direction and oversight for the company’s technical committee, which plays a critical role in the research, development and implementation of new technologies in the company. She will also continue to represent Steritech in the industry through her work with various committees and associations.

“There are few industry professionals whose commitment, insight and integrity are equal to Judy Black’s,” says Eric Eicher, president of Steritech’s pest prevention division.  “Her expertise, combined with her dedication to Steritech’s mission and core values, make her the perfect candidate for this position.  I know the contributions she will make as technical director will further enhance Steritech’s reputation and image and help drive us to new levels of success.”

Black began her career in pest management with Terminix International before joining Steritech in 1994.  She swiftly moved through the service ranks in Steritech to become the regional technical manager for the Mid-Atlantic region in 1995.  In the spring of 2000, Black relocated to Colorado where she served a dual role as regional technical manager for the firm’s Pacific region and operations manager for its Pacific Northwest branch.  She was promoted to general manager a year later.

Black has played an integral role in the development and ongoing evolution of Steritech’s EcoSensitive® pest prevention system, begun in the early ‘90s to address the industry-wide need for environmentally responsible pest management. It is an award-winning program twice recognized by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Pesticide Environmental Stewardship Program for excellence in reducing the risks associated with pesticide usage.  As a member of Steritech’s Technical Committee, she has been responsible for developing service protocols and training updates, providing field support to a team of more than 300 service team members, and assisting in product research and recommendation.

Recognized for her expertise in both pest prevention and food safety, Black has been invited to speak before the National Pest Management Association, The Entomological Society of America, the Southwest Food Safety Association and National Environmental Health Association.  She authored a chapter in the 9th edition of the Mallis Handbook of Pest Control.  She also serves as a member of the National Pest Management Association’s Program Development Committee and sits on the Board of Directors of the Colorado Pest Control Association.   This fall, Black will run for president-elect of Board Certified Entomologists, a group overseen by the Entomological Society of America.

A Board Certified Entomologist and member of Pi Chi Omega, the national fraternal pest management organization, Black earned a master’s of science degree in entomology and a bachelor’s degree in agriculture with an emphasis in environmental protection, both from West Virginia University. In addition, she is credentialed by NEHA as a Certified Food Safety Professional.

Black resides in Broomfield, Colo. with her husband, John.
