WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — As diseases like Zika virus and West Nile virus become more widespread, customers are coming to pest management professionals seeking solutions. Fortunately for PMPs, manufacturers are coming up with solutions to address nearly every mosquito control situation, according to Marc Bramhall, Midwest sales manager, Univar Environmental Sciences.
Bramhall reviewed many mosquito control solutions in "New Products and Technologies in Pest Control" a presentation he gave during the 82nd annual Purdue Pest Management Conference, held last month at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Ind.
One of the products reviewed by Bramhall was MosqutoMax’s Larvanator ALD-365, a larvicide-dispensing device that works year-round to eliminate mosquito larva in catch basins, French drains, drainage systems and other places that hold standing water.
The device works by dispensing a little bit of insect growth regulator (IGR) every 30 days. It works on a timer that uses a 9-volt battery. PMPs place the Larvanator by screwing it into the lid of a catch basin.
“It’s a nice add-on service you can do for your customers,” Bramhall said. “You do it once and you are done for the season. At the end of the season you pick it up, and then re-install it in the spring.”
