Leading Edge was given this honor for its community outreach efforts. For example, the Roes spearheaded a fundraising effort to purchase police dogs for the Pleasant Hill Police Department.
“Our police department was having to borrow police dogs from our neighbor city, so there was a real need,” said David Roe.
Police dogs are an expensive item — costing about $8,000. This is because the dogs are fully trained and come equipped with accessories such as flak jackets, walkie talkie extensions, etc. Roe’s donation of $1,600 helped “get the ball rolling.”
“I think other larger business owners saw that a small company like ours (six employees) donated and they thought, ‘Hey, maybe we should do something,’ ” Roe said.
Enough money was raised to purchase two dogs for the department. David Roe also was involved in the renovation of Friends of Roger’s Ranch – a landmark that has been restored and is now open to the public. People can visit this historic site and see what it was like to work on a ranch.
Adrianne Roe has been an active member in the Pleasant Hill Chamber of Commerce the last five years and currently is a board member. She says her involvement has helped raise Leading Edge’s profile community-wide.
“I would recommend that (PCOs) not just join these types of groups - but to add something to them,” Roe says. “A lot of times people will join a group, not get involved, and then quit after a year or so. My advice is to join a group and then volunteer for projects.”
Projects that Adrianne Roe has worked on include greeting new businesses, providing businesses opportunities to showcase themselves, as well as various fundraising efforts.
Leading Edge Termite Treatment was founded in 1995 and offers termite services and fumigation alternatives. The company recently purchased another local pest control company and soon will expand from six employees to 12.
