Correction: The Honolulu-Advertiser initially reported that the red imported fire ant, Solenopsis invicta, was found on Hawaii's Big Island, then ran a correction that the ant that was found was the little fire ant, Wasmannia auropunctata.
HILO, Hawaii - Little fire ants have been found along the perimeter of the county's Hilo Greenwaste Mulching Facility, according to the state Department of Agriculture.
None were detected in mulch or greenwaste piles or at the Kona Greenwaste Mulching Facility.
