IRVING, Texas — The 2009 schedule for Lloyd Smigel’s Discovery Series of pest management professional training has been announced. He will host three seminars next year, covering the topics of how to overcome a poor economy, commercial sales training and a service manager’s retreat.
Overcoming a Poor Economy, held Jan. 16-17, will examine how pest management companies can do well in a tight economy. Registrations must be received by Dec. 19, 2008.
Topics to be covered include:
• Controlling expenses
• Pay options
• Chemical controls
• Sales controls
• Price Increases
• Finding people who want to work
Commercial Sales Training, held April 17-18, will give PCOs an opportunity to learn how to sell commercial business more professionally. Registration must be received by March 19.
Topics to be covered include:
• Market Research
• Target Marketing
• Advertising to whom?
• Office Support
• Pricing
• A day in the field
The last session in the year, the Service Manager’s Retreat, will be held Sept. 11-12. The course will cover how to train a service manager, and how to prepare a standout technician to make the transition to management. Registration must be received by Aug. 14.

• Tracking the goals
• Handling Complaints
• Boss problems
• Handling Conflicts
All seminars will be held in Irving, Texas, near the Dallas-Forth Worth International Airport. Registration costs $800 for the first attendee, $600 for the second attendee and $400 each for more attendees.
