Ed Doyle, president of the GTCPCA and owner of Western Exterminating, Halton City, Texas, says the association has raised more than $9,300. This money is being used to purchase the insect repellent Permanone. At last count the association has provided 232 cases of the repellent, or 2,784 individual six-ounce cans, and will be placing additional orders.
The GTCPCA, under the direction of Doyle, began this project about a year ago as a charitable community outreach program.
“We were tired of hearing the negative things about Iraq and we wanted to do something to show our troops that we support them,” Doyle says. “Everyone in the association loved the idea.”
Doyle contacted Janet Foster, co-founder of the Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW) Marine Corps Families. This group collects needed items, makes care packages and sends them to the troops. The care packages go to all branches of the service.
Foster supplied Doyle with a list of needed items for the troops at the front line. GTCPCA found insect repellent on the list of needed supplies. As PCOs, who know the importance insect repellents, this item was a natural. Doyle added that Coulston Sawyer, manufacturer of Permanone, has offered the insect repellent to the chapter a discounted price.
Lieutenant Colonel Bob Morris spoke at a GTCPCA meeting and filled everyone in on U.S. activities in Iraq. Morris also took the opportunity to thank GTCPCA for its money-raising efforts.
Doyle says the fundraising effort is ongoing and those interested in donating can make their checks out to:
