HOUMA, LA. — A seafood and produce stand in Houma boasts an assortment of fresh crawfish, crabs, shrimp, fish, vegetables and seasonings.
But each week, a sizable portion of customers favor a wilder treat — "fresh coon."
Bayou Express Seafood & Produce, which has two locations in Houma, began selling fresh raccoon meat at both spots about two months ago.
The offbeat meat has quickly risen to join live seafood as one of the stand's hottest sellers, said Larry Eschete, manager of the Bayou Express.
