Martin Net Blaster Can Be Used to Capture Wildlife Pests

The Martin Net Blaster can be used in the capture of migratory birds and other animals.

EAST GRANBY, Conn - The Martin Net Blaster is now available through Wildlife Control Supplies of East Granby, Conn. Alan Huot, president of Wildlife Control Supplies, said he expects the product will be used on such species as Canada geese, seagulls, pigeons, turkey, deer, and perhaps wild hogs.

The Net Blaster™ was developed as an alternative to explosive powered rocket and cannon nets that were used in the past, in conjunction with USDA APHIS Wildlife Services and Martin Engineering of Neponset, Ill., to be used in the capture of migratory birds and other animals. This launcher is powered by compressed air and projects 4.5-pound weights attached to nets as large as 40 feet by 60 feet at speeds over 100 mph. It has a 90% capture rate for birds within 12 to 18 feet of the launcher. "It's exciting to be involved in the development of this new tool," said John Cummings, research wildlife biologist and bird specialist at the National Wildlife Research Center. "The air cannon net system is capable of deploying various net sizes by simply adjusting the air pressure. It will shoot a typical 40’ x 60’ heavy net further and faster than the current cannon net systems, however it does not require explosive knowledge, licensing, handling or transport. The system is very mobile and easy to handle for one person."
