MAITLAND, Fla. — Massey Services commemorates its 20th anniversary this year — and the company celebrated in style Saturday during its annual Eagle Circle Awards Banquet.
Tony Massey, executive vice president and chief operating officer, Massey Services, hosted this year’s festivities, in which more 600 people attended and a total of 60 awards were presented. Highlights from this year’s event included Tony Massey presenting the special President’s Award (presented annually to the Team Member of the Year) to the company’s founder, Harvey Massey, president and CEO of Massey Services.
“I did not want this evening to be a testimonial to me. It is truly about us and always has been,” Harvey Massey said. “Business always has been, it is today and it always will be, about people. Our organization will only be as strong as the people like you and I make it.”
In that spirit, Massey Services presented its Eagle Circle Awards. Here’s how the program works: Each individual service center nominates a Technician of the Year, who attends the awards ceremony. The entire management team at Massey Service also attends. Technician of the Year winners are based on various measurable criteria including skips, sales performance, productivity, etc.
Adam Jones, director, quality assurance, Massey Services, commented, “It’s a great evening. The look of pride on the faces of the technicians who are recognized, as well as everyone else who is honored during the awards ceremony, is touching.”
Harvey Massey said the program was so named because an eagle is “a symbol of leadership, power and nobility. Like an eagle, they have performed at the highest levels.”
A TIME TO REFLECT. This year’s event also included video clips shown throughout the night that highlighted key moments in Massey Services’ 20 year history, placed in historical context of the times. The video segments were introduced by Bud Brewer, president of MPB Communications.
In 1985, Harvey Massey bought Walker Chemical & Exterminating Co. – which was to be renamed Massey Services. At the time, the company was doing $3.9 million in annual revenue. The company now boasts 50 service centers, 141,000 customers, 650 associates and $55 million in annual sales, which includes MPB Communications, which Massey also owns and is the company’s ad agency.
“Yesterday I was 43 and today I’m 63 with a 30-year-old mind and a 40-year-old heart,” Harvey Massey said. “I’ve learned over time not to look down and not to look back. Looking up and straight ahead is the best way to correct the mistakes of yesterday”
“If where we have been and where we currently are is any indication to where we’re going the next 20 years, we’re going to be in for quite a ride.” Among those in attendance were John Bolanos of Univar, Rob Lederer of NPMA and Toni and Jack Caithness of the Florida Pest Management Association.
