ORLANDO, Fla. – Massey Services raised more than $1,300 for Autism Speaks in two weeks by recently participating in Walk Now for Autism at Disney’s Wide World of Sports and by creating internal fundraisers.

Massey Services was proud to be a first-time Bronze Level Sponsor of the Walk Now for Autism event. This annual event supports awareness and research for autism, the fastest-growing, serious developmental disability in the nation. Massey Services brought together more than 70 participants, including friends and family, to walk in the 5K event; making them the largest corporate team to participate.

There were also many more Massey Services team members who contributed to the event in creative ways. Prior to the walk, Massey Services team members created internal fundraisers to boost awareness of the event and raise additional funds. “Jeans Day” at Massey Services permitted team members to wear casual attire for a minimum contribution of $5. A bake sale was also organized by and for team members that featured dozens of homemade goodies for sale. Additional contributions were raised from a Turkey, Cheesecake and Fudge Raffle to bring the total to more than $1,300 to combat autism.

"This was a great example of the generous spirit and sense of family that exists at Massey Services," said Tony Massey, president and COO. "It's gratifying to see our team members get behind a cause like this and it's especially touching to me since my family knows the challenge of autism firsthand."

Autism is a brain development disorder that is typically exhibited before a child is three years old and lasts throughout their lifetime. Right now, autism is the fastest-growing serious development disability in the U.S. There is no medical detection for autism, nor is there a cure.
