Maurer Receives A.C.E. Certification

WINTER PARK, Fla. — Jim Maurer, president of First Choice Termite and Pest Control, has successfully completed the Associate Certified Entomologist (ACE) program.

The Entomological Society of America first launched the ACE program in May 2004. “This certification provides a higher level of credibility for me, my company and the services we provide,” says Maurer. “In addition to successfully completing the rigorous ACE examination, I have ascribed to a high code of ethical behavior, further demonstrating my commitment to my customers and the environment.”

Ray Meyers of RJM Contracting, Inc., a recent ACE Certification recipient, acted as proctor for his longtime friend and associate in the business.

According to Dr. Bob Davis, 2005 Director of Board Certified Entomologists (BCE) some entomologists choose to become Associate certified to document their training and knowledge base. “The ACE test is a stringent exam that tests a pest management professional’s knowledge of structural pest control and entomology,” says Davis. “In addition to Maurer’s education and industry experience, this certification gives him a competitive advantage and further illustrates his professionalism.”

Although Maurer cannot pinpoint the monetary return on this educational investment, he is confident that obtaining certification will increase business. “Not only will customers feel more confident in the services I provide, but many companies require that pest management professionals be certified,” says Maurer.
