Maxforce Tick Management System Now Registered in N.Y.

MONTVALE, N.J.  – After 6 years of research and testing, Bayer ES’ Maxforce® Tick Management System (TMS) – a product developed to control ticks and reduce the risk of Lyme disease and other tick-borne infections – has received federal registration in New York. Available in 18 states, the Maxforce Tick Management System attacks the root of the Lyme disease by treating the primary hosts of the disease – field mice and chipmunks.

 “Contrary to popular belief, small rodents, not deer, are responsible for harboring Lyme disease bacteria,” said Gordon Morrison product manager for the Maxforce Tick Management System.  “By treating wild rodents with a small dose of Fipronil, similar to how many companion animals are treated for fleas and ticks, we get to the root of the problem and break the cycle of Lyme disease.”

“The Maxforce Tick Management System, winner of the “Best of What’s New” award for around the home from Popular Science Magazine in 2004, kills ticks during the critical larval and nymphal stages when they are contracting the Lyme bacteria and other tick-borne infections from small rodents,” said Morrison. 

More than 75% of Lyme disease cases are contracted in residential properties. The Maxforce Tick Management System consists of a small, child-resistant box with an insecticide.  Boxes are placed around the perimeter of properties to control the ticks that live on small rodents.  The Maxforce Tick Management System works by treating mice and chipmunks that enter each box with a small dose of insecticide. If left untreated, a typical field mouse can carry over 150 ticks during peak tick-activity periods, and all of these ticks have the potential to infect people with Lyme disease and other tick-borne infections.
