FAIRFAX, VA. — The National Pest Management Association's (NPMA) Minorities in Pest Management (MPM) announced the availability of the first MPM scholarship for students majoring in urban pest management, entomology, or a related science such as biology or chemistry.
Applicants must be minority college students who have at least a 2.75 grade point average. Applicants must also be entering their junior or senior year or be a graduate student. Experience in the pest management industry or a commitment to work in the industry is preferred. Due by Aug. 20, applications should be submitted in electronic format to NPMA's Gene Harrington at gharrington@pestworld.org. Go to www.npmapestworld.org/mpm to access the application.
"MPM is extremely proud to offer a scholarship to a deserving minority student studying an academic field in which minorities have traditionally been underrepresented," said Genma Stringer Holmes, chairwoman of MPM's Steering Committee. "It is especially rewarding to know that we are not only assisting a student who might not otherwise be able to continue his or her studies but also helping lay the groundwork for the future generation of minority pest management professionals."
Founded in 2005, Minorities in Pest Management is an affiliate group of the National Pest Management Association that mentors, promotes, and advances minority pest management professionals, and helps encourage and increase minority participation in NPMA.
