CLEVELAND – In recent years, mosquitoes and ticks have become key growth areas for many pest control companies, with regional demand varying across the country.
Results from PCT's recent poll show that 47% of respondents indicated that in the past year tick/mosquito services accounted for a greater percentage of their company's revenues.
Modern Pest Control does not have a lot of tick pressure in its service areas (Katy, Cypress, The Woodlands and Greater Houston) but Vice President Del Lawson said mosquito revenue is on the rise. “We market our mosquito service very heavily during our spring rainy season,” said Lawson. This leads to new mosquito service contracts for our monthly mosquito treatment.”
Lawson said Modern anticipates another year of growth for its mosquito services. “We have had a wet spring so far which leads to higher mosquito populations for us in the area,” he said.
At Apex Pest Control, Asheville, N.C., mosquito services currently make up 20% of annual revenue — a promising number considering owner Jeff Honeycutt hasn’t aggressively promoted the service. “If I marketed mosquito control more than I do, it would increase revenue,” he said. Honeycutt added that he thinks mosquito control could represent a key area for growth and expansion in the future.
