CONCORD, N.H. — In 1994 under the leadership of Rod Kreimeyer, Best Pest Control Services, the New England Pest Management Association created the Mark Weintraub Scholarship, named after one of NEPMA's founders.

This scholarship is awarded annually to a deserving student who is planning to continue on to higher education or who is currently enrolled in higher education. This scholarship is open to all NEPMA members, their employees, and their immediate families in the New England area.

The 2013 Mark Weintraub Scholarship was recently awarded to Hannah McGee of Hanson, Mass., who will be attending Gordon College in the fall.  Her father works at Environmental Health Services, Norwood, Mass.

The Mark Weintraub Scholarship has given more than $30,000 to 20-plus recipients; funds are raised through various NEPMA events.

NEW NEPMA ACES
. NEPMA also announced 30 new Ace Certified Entomologists (ACEs), the result of the association’s new program it ran in partnership with the Entomological Society of America. For the past six months, NEPMA has worked in tandem with the ESA to host a day-and-a-half review class and exam, aiming to earn participants the designation of Associate Certified Entomologist (ACE). The program, which was held April 4-5 in Boxborough, Mass., was the first of its kind offered by the association in northern New England.

Thirty pest management professionals met the certification program’s minimum entrance requirements and took part in the program.

The following individuals were successful in passing the exam and have earned the designation of ACE which carries weight in pest management and other entomological circles in terms of recognition of one’s long-standing knowledge of pests and the best practices and other industry standards for managing them.

They include:  Mark Buffone, BCE, MA Pesticides Bureau; Kevin Moran, BCE, Residex; Richard Berman, Waltham Services; Jonathan Boyer, ACE, Ecologic Entomology; Mark Weaver, MD Weaver Corporation and Shawn Mullen, Bayer Environmental Science. Although he had to switch roles from program coordinator to participant, Galvin Murphy, ACE of Yankee Pest Control headed up the team effort on behalf of NEPMA.

A date has not yet been determined, but the Association is looking to offer another ACE Prep Program & Exam, perhaps in late fall of this year.
