MARSHFIELD, Vt. - Tick sightings are rising at an alarming rate in New England, prompting concerns that cases of Lyme disease and other tick-borne illnesses could increase, Fox 5 New York reports.
After a drought last year, the area saw a decrease in ticks because of the lack of humidity. But now, some residents report upwards of 30 ticks at a time in their clothes. In addition, more people are being sent to the emergency room for tick bites.
These high numbers weren't completely unexpected though, as researchers predicted the increase after noting the high moisture levels, and the abundance of rodents that tend to cary ticks.
