Developed by Dow AgroSciences LLC, ProFume can now be used for food processing facilities, pet food facilities, warehouses, shipping containers and more. For a complete listing of commodities, consult the product label. This label expansion now completes the federal regulatory package sought by Dow AgroSciences for ProFume.
ProFume was initially registered by the EPA in January 2004 and is recognized as a replacement for methyl bromide, with tolerances for dried fruits, tree nuts, cereals/small grains and small grain processed products. Users have praised the effectiveness of ProFume, along with the fact that it is non-reactive, so it does not form off-odors or flavors, and it does not deplete the ozone layer.
“We’re pleased that the EPA has accepted the label expansion for ProFume,” said Drew Ratterman, marketing specialist, Dow AgroSciences. “This is great news for millers and food processors. With the label amendments and additional tolerances, ProFume brings unprecedented flexibility and effective, reliable control of stored product pests to more markets segments and broadens its use pattern. We appreciate the continued support of many throughout the industry during this registration process and are pleased to be able to offer a product that meets their fumigation needs.”
Since the EPA accepted federal registration for ProFume usage, millers and processors throughout the country have begun to incorporate ProFume into their existing Integrated Pest Management (IPM) programs and enjoyed much success, with over 50 fumigations performed to date. The introduction of Precision Fumigation™ tools and techniques bring greater control of the variables affecting the fumigation timeline. That includes the Fumiguide™ program, an easy-to-use, Windows-based tool that the fumigator uses to track the process of a ProFume job. It determines a customized dosage to control the targeted pest species and life stages, including eggs and adults, and can be used to run simulated scenarios and calculate exposure times to meet customer needs.
Forty-eight states, including most recently California, along with the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico, registered ProFume under the original label. Similar registration is expected under the expanded label. ProFume is also registered for use in the United Kingdom, Switzerland, Germany and Italy with additional registrations being sought in other European countries.
ProFume is available through a network of trained, professional fumigators. For more information about ProFume gas fumigant and Precision Fumigation, or to find a Dow AgroSciences account representative in your area, visit www.ProFume.com.
