NEW YORK - The New York City Health Department has found that families of rats not only live in the subway stations but have dug themselves into the walls behind the tiles. The MTA has been targeting the rats with poison, but they then move to less toxic areas. Without enough food on the tracks and platforms the rats have moved into the cars.
With such a rise in rodents, the NY Daily news columnist Michael Daly has announced the launch of the first EEEEK! Award for Best Subway Rat Video. Participants can post any videos to YouTube, as the winner will be announced in two weeks and receive a prize of the 30-day unlimited-ride MetroCard.
