NPMA Distributes Relief Funds to Katrina-Impacted PCOs

The National Pest Management Association distributed $72,000 to 284 pest control industry hurricane victims last week.

FAIRFAX, Va. — This week, the National Pest Management Association (NPMA) distributed $72,000 to 284 pest control industry hurricane victims.

According to Rob Lederer, executive vice president of the NPMA, “NPMA in cooperation with the Louisiana, Alabama and Mississippi Pest Control Associations hosted distribution sites in Gulfport, Mississippi, Baton Rouge, Louisiana and Mobile, Alabama. Pest control company owners, managers and employees were asked to present proof of employment as well as their applicator’s license. We were able to provide 284 victims with $250 each.”

Lederer added, “It is only through the generosity of the pest control industry that we were able to provide financial assistance to our own industry victims. I was able to speak with these folks first-hand and they really appreciated this help from their industry during this very difficult time.”

The National Pest Management Association is also hosting a job board to help with temporary relocation, jobs and housing. “We are pleased to offer this service and feel this is what an Association should be doing in this time of crisis,” said Lederer.

Additionally, NPMA has just added an educational track at the upcoming Pestworld convention held in Nashville Oct. 14-17 on dealing with natural disasters. Featuring speakers from FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Association), SBA (Small Business Association), industry representatives from the insurance, regulatory and technical community, this educational track will focus on what you can do in the event of a natural disaster including Working with Federal Agencies, Issues and Recovering your Customer Base and Preparation and Reaction from a legal, insurance and regulatory standpoint.
