FAIRFAX, Va. — There are few human tragedies that compel people to come together. The recent events of Hurricane Katrina is one of these. Like so many of you, National Pest Management Association (NPMA) is deeply saddened by the extent of the damage in the Gulf Coast states and we are all concerned for the well-being of our industry members, their employees, and their families affected by the hurricane.
Many of our members are small, family owned businesses; the devastation of Hurricane Katrina hits the pest management industry particularly hard, affecting their livelihood and that of their employees. A disaster of this magnitude takes on national significance and touches us all as concerned citizens.
While there are many national fundraising programs underway, such as the Red Cross and the United Way, we want to ensure that those companies and individuals that are part of our pest management family will benefit from a targeted campaign. NPMA is coordinating an extensive fundraising effort designed to provide much needed financial assistance to benefit the hundreds of local pest control companies and their employees in the Gulf Coast communities. In addition to NPMA making a sizeable contribution, we are asking that every industry member company make a minimum donation of $100 to the Pest Management Hurricane Relief Fund. If you can donate more, please do so.
In coordination with the state associations in Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama, NPMA will distribute all donated funds on a case-by-case basis to the pest control companies and their employees that need a helping hand. The pest management industry has always risen to a higher level and we are confident we can do so for our members and their employees who now need assistance. Time is of the essence so please do not delay in making a contribution.
For those affected by Hurricane Katrina, please know that you are in our thoughts and prayers. We at NPMA are committed to help lighten the burden in any way that we can in the days and weeks ahead. Thank you in advance for your generous donation.
