NPMA's Technical Team Busy with Media Interviews

Dr. Jim Fredericks and Dr. Michael Bentley spent their fair share of time being interviewed in July.

FAIRFAX, Va. — NPMA’s entomologists, Dr. Jim Fredericks and Dr. Michael Bentley, spent their fair share of time in the media in July. You may have seen Dr. Fredericks on The Weather Channel’s AMHQ Weekend and The Weekend Recharge where he joined the anchors via Skype to discuss how the heat impacts pest populations. He shared prevention tips and encouraged viewers to contact a licensed pest control professional. Dr. Fredericks was also quoted in an AccuWeather.com (43.5 million UVPM) article about the reported increase in mosquito activity along the East Coast this season. The piece was picked up by MSN.com and AOL.com. In addition, Dr. Bentley participated in an interview with The Kitchn that resulted in an article about pantry pests. The site sees more than 19 million unique online visitors per month.

PPMA's messaging also appeared in a number of regional outlets in July. The Charlotte Observer (4.7 million UVPM) included NPMA information on termites and a direct link to PestWorld.org in an article about local termite populations. The Miami Herald (8.9 million UVPM) included quotes from Dr. Jim Fredericks’ interview with AccuWeather in their own article highlighting Florida’s mosquito populations. The State (2 million UVPM) in Columbia, SC included NPMA information about black widow spiders, as well as a direct link to PestWorld.org, in an article about black widow spiders found in a bag of grapes at a local store.
