Noted rodentologist and PCT contributing technical editor Bobby Corrigan was the subject of a New York Times article "Return of the Rats.”
Corrigan told the Times people see the most rats in August because “All the young from the spring reproduction peak are now off and running about and learning about life.”
In New Yok, Corrigan told the Times, Manhattan most likely has the highest concentration of rats, with Brooklyn and the Bronx tied for second, followed by Queens and then Staten Island. “Manhattan has a higher density of human beings, so a higher density of garbage,” he said.
The article also noted that the New York City Health Department recently began placing dry ice in several parks and “rat reservoir” sites. The dry ice dissipates into carbon dioxide, asphyxiating the rats in their burrows.
