The new chairman of the New York City Metropolitan Transportation Authority recently opposed a bill that would ban eating on subways. The goal of the legislation was to reduce the number of rats in the subway system, which has become a problem throughout New York.
According to The New York Times, the MTA chief did not want to ban food on the subways because too many children only have time to eat breakfast on their way to school. However, many residents complained about the veto, as the city has been combating a rodent infestation for a very long time. Many MTA workers have complained that the city has not implemented enough pest control services to eradicate the rodents.
