ATLANTA – Orkin raised $244,500 in 2011 to donate to the United Nations Foundation’s Nothing But Nets campaign, a global, grassroots effort dedicated to saving lives by preventing malaria in Africa. Nothing But Nets will use these funds to purchase and distribute almost 24,500 long-lasting, insecticide-treated mosquito bed nets in malaria prone areas in Africa. Since the campaign began in 2008, Orkin has raised more than $820,000 to donate more than 82,000 bed nets.
The Fight The Bite campaign raised donations through a company employee net drive, customer net drive and consumer contributions. In addition to individual contributions, Orkin donated one mosquito net to Nothing But Nets for every mosquito service purchased this season.
The nets help prevent malaria by creating a protective barrier against mosquitoes at night when the vast majority of transmissions occur. One hundred percent of each contribution goes directly toward purchasing and distributing a net and teaching the recipient to use it properly.
