PCO Bookkeepers
PCO Bookkeepers & M&A Specialists released a new comprehensive benchmarking report, the 2025 Pest Control Industry Cost Study, and a new composite metric for pest control companies to assess their performance, the PCOB Competitive Index.
The Cost Study presents a quantitative analysis of operating costs and financial performance within the U.S. pest management industry. PCOB produced the report in partnership with the National Pest Management Association.
“Well-run pest control companies typically know their own numbers, but what’s often missing is the context — how those numbers stack up against the rest of the industry,” says Dan Gordon, founder and managing member of PCO Bookkeepers & M&A Specialists. “That’s why we published the PCO Bookkeepers & M&A Specialists Pest Control Industry Cost Study. It provides aggregated financial benchmarks so owners can see where they’re strong, where they can improve and how to make smarter strategic decisions.”
The report is based on data from 246 firms reporting in 47 states with aggregate annual revenue of more than $583 million. The survey data include information from Sept. 1, 2024, through Aug. 31, 2025. Subject companies are clients of PCOB and NPMA member survey respondents. They have annual revenue between $500,000 and $22 million.
New for 2025: Regions & PCOB Competitive Index
PCOB last published the Cost Study in 2019. The 2025 edition features a regional breakdown of key performance indicators and a new composite metric: The PCOB Competitive Index.
Regions covered include:
· Northeast
· Mid-Atlantic
· Southeast
· Midwest
· Southwest
· West
The PCOB Competitive Index is a proprietary metric developed by PCOB to offer a holistic view of a company's performance. It integrates three critical dimensions of business health: growth, profitability and revenue quality. The Competitive Index favors companies that are not only growing and profitable but are building a sustainable and predictable business model.
“As the only specialized accounting and M&A firm for the pest control industry staffed with credentialed financial professionals, we realize we're in a unique position,” Gordon says. "No other organization in the industry has the data, access or expertise to produce a report like the Cost Study, so we're proud to provide this resource to the pest control industry.
