PCO Profile: Termite Lady Goes Green

ECOLA Services has grown during the past eight years under the direction of owner Sue Fries.

Twenty-seven years ago, Sue Fries married into the glamorous business of pest control.  And after 20 years in the business, she made a decision to change the direction of pest control to offer more environmentally responsible methods of extermination.

Having a child who suffers from chronic allergies to dust mites as well as attention deficit disorder, Sue Fries has always been particularly conscious of not only the global environment, but her family's immediate surroundings.  Her family's health combined with her love for animals were the real driving forces behind her decision to operate an eco-sensitive pest control company.  And with growing sensitivity to factors such as global warming, pollution, and a generally increasing "green" movement, Fries knew that the best thing to do would be to buy her own alternative termite treatment company. This ultimately lead to her "Best Green Exterminator" Award in August of 2007, which "Is a real honor," Fries says.  "There is a great sense of accomplishment that accompanies making environmentally responsible choices.

Eight years ago, Fries bought ECOLA Services, Inc. from a two-man partnership. By looking at this woman, strangers are not quick to assume that she is the sole owner of this leading-edge pest control company that has, since inauguration, expanded throughout the state of California from San Diego in the south to San Luis Obispo on the Central Coast.

While ECOLA Services was incorporated in 1983, it was not until Sue Fries - "the Termite Lady" - took over the business, that those alternative non-chemical treatments such as the electro gun, Direct Heat, and microwave methods became a recognized alternative to solving the pest problem.  ECOLA offers both traditional treatments along with a variety of ecological solutions.
